The English Organic Wine Box
The organic scene has been making tremendous strides in recent years, especially when it comes to sparkling wine. We have chosen 3 wonderful wines, highlighting this progress, including the Davenport Horsmonden Dry 2018, Oxney Organic Sparkling Rosé NV, and Albury Organic Silent Pool Rosé 2020.
Davenport Horsmonden Dry 2018: The wine has long been a favourite due to its layered aromatics of grapefruit, peach, elderflower and honeysuckle, the freshness of the palate and its ability to age. The ageing process integrates the brisk acidity and allows a more complex flavour range to develop. In fact, Will would argue that the wine starts to reach its peak at two years old, so we are going to taste the wine as it is getting into its tasting plateau.
The Albury Rosé 2020: This wine is a blend of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier which underwent a short maceration on the skin to give a delicate pale pink hue. The wine has scent of crushed raspberries, apple and a note of lime with a crisp, dry palate, reminiscent of a good Sancerre rosé with a Provence flavour. All in all, this is a delightful light, flavoursome rosé to revive a palate and deliver good humour. As far as food pairing goes, take it with you on a picnic or a trip to the sea and sip and enjoy the English summer in style.
Oxney Sparkling Rosé: This is a delicious, fresh, dry, gently-foaming wine. One can find delicate aromas of raspberry, peach and lemon on the nose and palate along with a light lees richness. The wine is bottle fermented and has extra weight due to the extended lees contact but is made to give a fresh, youthful mouthful.
Joe Fattorini of The Wine Show recently tasted the Oxney Rosé: “Delicious red fruits and wild strawberries. Beautiful wine, really good value. Delicious”
