Litmus Orange Bacchus
Litmus Orange Bacchus
Contemporary expression with a brilliantly textured palate and tropicality.
Clive, our Master of Wine, can’t help but rave about this wine and having just tasted it ourselves we absolutely concur! If you want an interesting, different and delicious wine, this is it!
Pale gold in colour the wine displays hazelnut, fennel, dried orange and marzipan characters on the nose. The palate has a touch of white pepper spice, is full flavoured, discernibly made from Bacchus but the skin maceration gives depth, complexity and texture. There is a degree of astringency on the palate and a long finish.
The key winemakers are John Worontschak and Mattheiu Elsinga. They have many years of experience of making wines around the world; John has been making English wine since 1988 and given good fruit he will make very good wine. The Litmus Orange is one of John’s star wines.
Litmus Wines are not a well-known producer but it does make exceedingly good wines. It is the company which makes wines for Denbies at the Denbies winery just outside Dorking. It is the company which makes a number of own label English wines for a number of British high street retailers. It is the company which creates the wines for number of smaller English vineyards. And it is bloody good at making wine.
Food Pairing Ideas: The weight, acidity and texture means it will partner a range of dishes such as slow cooked belly pork, goose and cooked cheese-dishes; anything with a bit of fattiness or rich in dairy. Some cheese merchants believe it is one of the best wines to partner a cheese platter.
