Virtual Wine Tastings
Over the past year one of the questions we are continually asked is: “Do you ever do any virtual wine tastings?” so we are pleased to announce we are now running some virtual English wine tasting events, all of which are hosted by our Master of Wine, Clive Barlow.
We recognise that opening 3 or 4 bottles is quite an ask, especially with lockdown restrictions. So, we have come up with a simple solution - 100ml vials - which are the perfect amount for wine tastings. Our wine tasting packs consist of 6 vials, enabling you to try 6 different English wines (see our selection below) and learn from our Master of Wine.
The wine tasting events are hosted by our good friends at Obby, who specialise in virtual hosting classes. All you have to do is sign up on their page and we will send you the wines and a link to join the Zoom call!
Meet Clive Barlow, MW, our wine tasting host
If you are going to taste some wines, it is a far better thing to be guided by an expert than not. Thankfully, at Corkk, Clive, our Master of Wine, has many years’ experience in hosting wine tastings for many different organisations. Clive has a no nonsense approach to wine believing it is created to be enjoyed and shared and definitely not to be over-thought. He loves to share his knowledge and enthusiasm, delivering in an engaging style. Furthermore, he is not a wine geek so will not go on and on about clones, yeasts and rootstocks; unless you really want to know and he will be very happy to answer!

six english wines in our virtual tasting pack
We are very excited about our first virtual tasting pack. Three wonderful examples of the “English” grape, Bacchus and three additional wines which highlight the variety of still wines we are now producing. Of course, all these wines are available in our shop, so if you do want to buy a bottle or two, just pop on over.
THree Bacchus Wines
Flint Bacchus Dry 2019
A generous yet discreet nose offering fresh grass, nettle and kiwi fruit which, as the wine opens in the glass, moves to more floral notes such as jasmine and honeysuckle. The palate is really very well balanced with ripe fruits of grapefruit, lemon and mango cut by a fine acidity. The wine has a long, flavourful finish.
2. Hidden Spring Bacchus Fumé
The wine has a beautiful aromatic character delivering lime, green apple and honeysuckle whilst the palate offers more jasmine and some tropical fruit notes. In addition, the palate is dry, fresh and also rounded and textured.
3. litmus Orange Bacchus
Pale gold in colour the wine displays hazelnut, fennel, dried orange and marzipan characters on the nose. The palate has a touch of white pepper spice, is full flavoured, discernibly made from Bacchus but the skin maceration gives depth, complexity and texture.
Two Pinots and a Dornfelder
4. wayfarer Pinot Gris 2019
A Pinot Gris with balance, harmony and evolving characters. The wine has a cobnut, apple and pear aroma but its developing a light spice note. The palate has a typical fresh English character but there is an edge of creaminess, of roundness that reminds the drinker of the Alsace style of Pinot Gris
5. Simpsons Pinot Meunier 2019
The Derringstone Pinot Meunier 19 displays chalk purity and sweet and savoury aromas of poached winter fruit. Complex balsamic nuances and red fruit flavours finish with a deliciously creamy mouth-feel.
6. Biddenden Dornfelder
A deeply coloured red displaying ruby hues and delivering a light red and dark fruit scent, think cherry and bramble and plum. Despite the density of the colour, the wine has a light body, soft tannins with a fresh edge of acidity making it very accessible and smooth and it carries a mouthful of fruit flavour with a touch of black pepper.
