December 2019 selection - a Preview

The December selection offers a range of diverse wines from two counties in the south east of England. All the wines come from small, family owned vineyards focussing on making an individual style of quality wines.

The red, white and rosé wines come from the highly rated 2018 vintage. We have chosen three Kent vineyards across the county to show different terroirs. Each wine is made from a different grape variety and expresses the freshness and vivacity of our unique climate.  There is a fresh dry aromatic white, an elegant textured rosé and a light, fruitful red.

We have curated an excellent selection of sparkling wine to dazzle your taste buds with wines from Sussex and Kent. There are two whites, one light and scented, the other rich and complex plus a charming organic rosé. Each wine will lift your day and enhance an event.

For more details on the individual wines please see below. All orders come with detailed notes on the wines, the winemaker and food pairing tips.

Red,white, ROSÉ - December 2019 Selection

White - Barnsole Bacchanalian 2018

This white wine reflects the warmth of 2018 and displays green fruits plus some more tropical aromas of mango and pineapple. The palate is dry but has a generous feel, a rich dryness and lingering finish.

ROSÉ - Simpsons Railway 2018

The rosé is made from Pinot Noir and delivers gentle notes of raspberries and wild strawberries, alongside pear and fresh bread. The wine is dry with fresh acidity, nicely integrated delivering a wonderful cut to the textured palate. The wine has a bit of attitude and character with layered fruits and textured weight.

RED - Biddenden Gamay 2018

Only in the warmest of years does the Gamay grape ripen well and make a juicy, red fruited wine. In the past twenty years this vineyard has made only four vintages of red Gamay; 2018 was one such year. The wine is light and carries the aromas of wild strawberry and cherries with a black pepper note. It is juicy and fresh with some fleshy tannins; think hedgerow fruits and the juicy bittersweet character.

Sparkling Wine - December 2019 selection

Westwell Pelegrim Sparkling White NV

The wine has a rich, biscuit nose and plenty of autolytic notes which promise a savoury complex palate. In the mouth the wine certainly delivers layered flavours, both apple fruit and savoury nut and bread characters. It is dry, gently foaming and has mineral depth. It drinks well now but has the concentration to reward cellaring for two to three years.

Kingscote Sparkling White NV

The wine is a fresh, aromatic dry sparkling white. It possesses aromas of fresh grapes, gooseberry and grass appetising and sapid. The palate is dry, fresh and lively with a bright mousse. Whilst dry, the wine is not tart or sharp but refreshing and clean. It makes a super aperitif or easy drinking sparkling wine, more interesting and more deeply flavoured than a Prosecco yet not a sharp and austere as some Champagne

oxney Sparkling organic ROSÉ NV

The sparkling rosé is a delicious, fresh, dry, gently-foaming wine. One can find delicate aromas of raspberry, peach and lemon on the nose and palate along with a light lees richness. The wine is bottle fermented and has extra weight due to the extended lees contact but is made to give a fresh, youthful mouthful.
